AUSTIN – Pembalap Tim LCR Honda, Cal Crutchlow, harus menelan hasil yang buruk di seri ketiga MotoGP 2018 yang digelar di Circuit of the America (COTA), Austin, Amerika Serikat, pada Senin (23/4/2018) dini hari WIB. Crutchlow pun membeberkan penyebabnya finis di posisi ke-19 MotoGP Amerika Serikat 2018.
Menurut Crutchlow, hasil minor ini didapatkan karena dirinya terjatuh saat melakoni balapan tersebut. Insiden ini terjadi di lap-lap awal ketika Crutchlow tengah berusaha merebut posisi pembalap di depannya.
Crutchlow harus terjatuh ketika tengah memperebutkan posisi keenam bersama Johann Zarco dan Dani Pedrosa. Usahanya saat itu tak berjalan mulus karena laju motornya yang tak stabil sehingga Crutchlow harus terjatuh dan keluar jalur.
Beruntung, Crutchlow bisa bangkit kembali dan melanjutkan balapan hingga garis finis. Meski begitu, dirinya tak bisa merebut kembali posisi terdepan dan harus puas finis di urutan ke-19 dengan catatan waktu 42 menit 51,057 detik.
Rekan setim Takaaki Nakagami itu mengaku insiden ini terjadi karena dirinya salah memilih ban. Ban keras yang digunakan Crutchlow saat race di MotoGP Amerika Serikat ternyata membuat laju kendaraannya tak dapat maksimal. Alhasil, dirinya pun harus terjatuh saat tengah memperebutkan posisi terdepan.
"Saya merasa telah tampil dengan baik, tetapi saya membuat kesalahan, saya terjatuh. Sejujurnya, saya mampu untuk finis kedua atau ketiga dalam perlombaan ini, tetapi saya jatuh di tikungan terakhir,” ujar Crutchlow, sebagaimana dikutip dari Speedweek, Senin (23/4/2018).
